56 truck drivers’ licences withdrawn in January first week

MOI:

Director-General of Traffic Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa announced on Tuesday the withdrawal of driving licences of 56 truck drivers in the first week of January for violating traffic rules.

The action barred them from driving any vehicle for 30 days. They will face withdrawal of their licences for one month to six months in case they repeate the offences.

The Director-General said the department had launched a campaign to monitor wrong driving practices by truck drivers, such as not sticking to the right lanes and overtaking in a manner that risked the safety of other road-users. The campaign includes carrying out technical inspection of trucks on various roads. He said that some drivers continued to violate traffic rules without caring for the threats their actions posed to their lives and the safety of others. He said that wrong driving habits caused accidents and disrupted the traffic.

The department has been calling upon truck drivers to follow the rules and ensure that their trucks are roadworthy with their tyres and lights in order. He appreciated the commitment of a large segment of drivers and their positive response to the year-long traffic campaigns.
