The first preparatory meeting of the committee to prevent drownings, chaired by Director of Administrative Affairs at the General Directorate of Civil Defence Colonel Hamad Abdullah Al Miraj, has been held to enlist all the plans to prevent drowning accidents during summer. The committee consists of representatives from the ministries of Health and Industry, the Water and Electricity Authority, the Coast Guard, the Police Media and the General Directorate of Civil Defence.

The committee agreed to prepare a unified plan to ensure safety against drowning and awareness programmes to ensure safety procedures were in place at swimming pools.

The use of media such as TV, radio, newspapers, lectures and awareness banners for use in awareness campaigns was also discussed.
