HE Interior Minister marks the International Customs Day with a speech

MOI:

His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa directive has marked the International Customs Day on January 26 with the following speech:

The World Customs Organisation has been dedicated since its formation to celebrate annually the International Customs Day on January 26. Thus, the Interior Ministry through the Customs Affairs marks the day to evaluate the achievements and build on them, also, to launch and evaluate initiatives following systematic, comprehensive customs work. The system aims to simplify customs procedures, provide the best services and achieve the best practices through the reinforcement of partnership with the private sector and business community.  As part of the economic vision of Bahrain 2030 that motivates government and private organisation to take practical steps to attract investments and eliminate obstacles facing investors and businessmen.

The Customs Affairs strives to follow the footsteps of developed countries in enhancing customs work through signing many international agreements and taking part in conferences to benefit from global expertise to improve customs performance.

The Customs Affairs has won international recognition by becoming a member among the 30 members of the General Policy Committee of the World Customs Organisation. The accomplishment was part of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad for individuals and organisations to seek creativity and excellence on all walks in life.

In this context, the celebration of the International Customs Day is not to highlight accomplishments, but to plan for the future. The Customs Affairs has launched the Customs Clearance System (OFOQ) and won the best government practices in the Third Government Forum. This is part of the Interior Ministry dedication to implement the directives of His Royal Highness, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister and a translation to the initiatives and inspirations of His Royal Highness, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

The protection of national security could be through various contexts, including the protection of the economy and borders through coordination between security and customs authorities. The protection of the Kingdom’s borders and ports (sea, land and air) could be achieved through actual enforcement of laws, systems and strategic planning by a strong approach in determining goals and procedures. For such purpose, the Interior Ministry launched the Customs Affairs Strategy 2017-2020 that had achieved most of its goals, mainly documentation and transparency. This means the formation of a roadmap for officials to determine their specialities.

The Interior Ministry has been dedicated to enhancing the competency of the Customs workforce and equips the department of the latest technological systems, including the offering of a tender for the new customs clearance system that was designed by the Customs Affairs personnel.

The Interior Ministry has been committed to customs work that is closely linked to the business sector as an essential national revenue and for its security duties of the prevention of all types of trafficking. Therefore, we are dedicated to meet the world customs development and benefit from the best practices.

I wish the Presidents of Customs and the Customs Affairs affiliates more excellence under the wise guidance of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
