National Disaster Management Committee follows up preparedness to prevent coronavirus outbreak

Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan chaired on Tuesday the emergency meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee. Representatives from concerned ministries and organisations attended.

The meeting was part of the directives of His Excellency Interior Minister and Chairman of the Civil Defence Council to protect the level of preparedness and to take all precautionary measures to prevent coronavirus outbreak.

The Chief welcomed the members, highlighting that the meeting aimed to promote the continuation of the highest level of preparedness and readiness of concerned authorities to protect the public. He revealed: “There is a previously-set national risk plan that is reviewed, updated and developed regularly.”

He highlighted the necessity to activate e-services to reduce the number of applicants while processing services. During the meeting, the committee called to check the possibility to postpone some activities and events to prevent gatherings, asserting the importance of transparency and awareness for the protection of people and encourage them to not to travel to countries with coronavirus outbreak.

He expressed thanks and appreciation to the medical team that was formed by an order by His Royal Highness Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. He asserted the support of the committee to the team’s steps to prevent the outbreak of the virus.

The Chief highlighted that the committee works to support the team in implementing its plan, as the panel is in an ongoing meeting to tackle any changes and provide the required services. He hailed the role of the medical team of the Health Ministry and concerned authorities of monitoring suspected cases for their professionalism and cooperation with the World Health Organisation.

The committee urged to continue to release general safety instructions for the public, including avoiding gatherings and some social behaviours such as kissing on social occasions to prevent the spreading of the infection. It also urged people to seek information from official sources.
