HE Interior Minister chairs the Civil Defence Council meeting

His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired on Wednesday the Civil Defence Council meeting. The virtual session was attended by the Oil Minister, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister, Information Minister, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister, Chief of Public Security and the Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and the CEO of the Supreme Council for Environment.

HE Interior Minister welcomed the council members, highlighting that the meeting held to review regional risks and their possible impacts on citizens and residents' safety, along with general safety protection procedures.

The meeting highlighted the outcomes of the emergency meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee that was chaired by the Chief, in which it reviewed implications of the Iranian nuclear facility's accident. The Chief directed the panel to study the general preparedness and the formation of a team to review procedures and launch a media plan to enhance public awareness on radiation accidents.

The Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and CEO of the Supreme Council for Environment, HE Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina asserted that no radiation risks on individuals or the environment were detected in the Kingdom. He said that the Iranian plant is far from Bahrain and it isn't connected to any watercourse. He said that preventive measures were taken to detect any radiation pollution to deal with such incidents.

HE Interior Minister directed to inspect the general preparedness and required steps to protect citizens and residents and securely deal with threats and risks. He also directed to evaluate the readiness of concerned authorities and their capabilities to coordinate and cooperate.

The meeting discussed public and private shelters that should be part of the future residential projects and the issuance of a guide of those shelters' technical requirements. It also recommended the launching of an awareness campaign on how to deal with possible situations. The guide will also include the technical and logistic specifications of those shelters.

HE Interior Minister said that the shelters are a crucial part of the civil defence plan to deal with any chemical leak or pollution. He urged for integrated procedures to deal with challenges through a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety procedures. He directed to continue to update the National Emergency Strategy and to set proactive scenarios to enhance readiness within the regional situations and challenges.

Minister of Works said that the shelters would be considered while setting the organisational conditions of the building. Meanwhile, the Minister of Electricity highlighted the importance of cooperation while reviewing plans to achieve swift responses.

At the end of the meeting, HE Interior Minister thanks the members for their dedication to coordinate to enhance citizens and residents' security and safety.
