Legal action for using Saudi verdicts to create sectarian discord

MOI:

The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that it supported Saudi Arabia’s right to take appropriate steps to maintain its own security and stability. It said that legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to use the recent verdicts in Saudi Arabia to heighten sectarian tensions or to incite violence.

Article 215 of the Bahrain Penal Code states: “Any person who makes defamatory statements in public against a foreign country or an international organisation based in Bahrain or against its president or representative will face imprisonment for not more than two years and/ or a fine of up to BD200. The same penalties shall apply to a person who defames such an organisation’s flag or official emblem.”

It said the Interior Ministry will not accept interference in any form in the verdicts of the Saudi judiciary or any other friendly country since these are sovereign matters.  The Ministry will take legal action against any interference in the security of GCC countries and violators will be held legally accountable as per security and legal commitments between GCC countries.

The Interior Ministry urged people to obtain information from official sources and avoid misusing the social media to spread false and misleading information in an attempt to incite sectarianism or violence.

Article 168 of the Penal Code states: “Any person who deliberately disseminates false reports, statements or malicious rumours to damage public security, terrorise the population or cause damage to the public interest shall face imprisonment for up to two years and/ or a fine of up to BD200.”

The Interior Ministry supports Saudi actions in the fight against terrorism and other criminal activity as part of the strong and historical ties between the two countries.
