hat distinguishes humans from other creatures on Earth is that they are social beings. God Almighty has granted them the gift of thought, which affirms in its ultimate philosophy that life cannot be sustained without your interaction with others and your cooperation with those around you. This is human nature, not limited to the individual, but extends to societies and nations. Among the manifestations of this human connection is that the individual, any individual, is able to meet some of the needs of those around them, even if this is limited. They are what can be called “meeting people’s needs” just as you also aspire to meet what you can for others. Therefore, the following obvious questions may be necessary: Do you like helping others? Do you believe that life lies in reviving hope in others? Do you share the goodness that God has bestowed upon you with the needy and the deprived? Humans are naturally inclined to help others for a clear reason: they are human beings, created by God Almighty to populate the world with the human beings who are with them. This assistance need not be material or require significant effort, energy, or time from you. Help may be in the form of a sincere word or advice... It may be in dispelling worries and reviving hope in the souls of those around you... It may be in listening to your brother say everything he has to say in what we sometimes call «confiding in others.» Yes, there are many forms of helping or fulfilling people›s needs, which is one of the most important commandments given by the Lord of the Worlds in His Noble Book, ‘O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good that you may succeed.’ And as you can see, it came in second place after worshipping Allah. This is what made Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal consider it one of the best deeds, «that which benefits others...” - that is, doing good, even if limited, has a great status in religion and this world. Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, said:”There is a pleasure in fulfilling people›s needs that is only known by those who have experienced it... So do good, no matter how small, for you do not know which good deed will admit you to Paradise.” Do good, and you will find your life more beautiful and happier. Doing good doesn›t necessarily have to be done with money, which is ultimately God›s money. It may be doing good by providing a service to others, relieving them of a hardship, or rekindling their hope that tomorrow will be better. When we show compassion, unite, and work together in doing good and fulfilling people›s needs, life will be better and of higher quality. The poet Abu al-Atahiya said, “Fulfill needs as much as you can... and be content with your brother›s concerns, and then find hope... For the best days of a young man are those on which needs are fulfilled.” b i n d a i n a@b a t e l c o . c om . b h Maj. Gen.
