SECURITY ombating corruption is at the forefront of Bahrain’s priorities and for this, it adopts a comprehensive strategy that includes steps to reduce the scourge and protect public funds. Several pioneering national laws that contribute to enhancing integrity and transparency across various sectors have been introduced. These reflect a commitment to establishing a robust legal environment that ensures the effective fight against corruption. Intensive efforts are being made at both the local and international levels by strengthening cooperation with countries and international organizations and Bahrain is committed to exchanging expertise and following best practices in the field. National legislation Al Amn met with e met with Anti-Corruption Crimes Department Director Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Jassim Al-Khadri who said Bahrain has given a lot of attention to combating corruption through numerous efforts that are considered important and serious step. These include issuing several national laws and exerting intensive efforts at both the local and international levels. While corruption is not a widespread phenomenon, Bahrain’s leadership intensified its efforts by issuing Royal Decree No. (109) of 2011, establishing the General Directorate for Combating Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security, which includes several departments, among them the Anti-Corruption Crimes Department. He added that several regional agreements have been ratified and international agreements related to combating corruption have been complied with, most notably the United Nations Convention against Corruption. This has led to the amendment and issuance of several laws and procedures to enhance integrity and combat corruption.
