ahrain joined the international community in marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. This global event is marked worldwide towards efforts to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and joint action towards a drug-free world. On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Drugs, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said Bahrain reaffirms its commitment to international partnership and collaborative work in combating drug abuse, in line with its leading regional and global role, guided by the noble directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up and care of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. “The responsibility of confronting the dangers and challenges of drug abuse is not limited to security authorities alone, but is a shared duty among all segments of society,” he said. “This requires intensified efforts and a strong sense of responsibility to counter all forms of smuggling and trafficking. The drug problem, which the entire world is suffering from and which constitutes a source of concern for humanity, leads to the destruction of the family unit and social disintegration. This requires taking all necessary measures and fulfilling legal and societal responsibilities to contain and eradicate this scourge through joint national efforts and practical international cooperation, thereby protecting societies from its dangers.” He said, accordingly, Bahrain is working to combat the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, control precursors and chemicals, and all related criminal activities, limiting their spread.  “This is achieved by enhancing security performance and mechanisms, developing coordination, integration, and interconnection among relevant authorities, and monitoring efforts aimed at strengthening community partnerships.” He said within the framework of security awareness, an innovative approach to combating negative phenomena emphasises the importance of raising awareness about the seriousness of this scourge and its detrimental economic, health, and social impacts on individuals and society. “This requires unifying efforts and utilising all available means and capabilities within the framework of implementing the second edition of the National Plan to Combat Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, including its objectives and initiatives, following the success rate of the first edition, which reached 97 per cent.” He said the number of anti-drug cases detected from the beginning of January until the end of April 2025 amounted to approximately 710 cases, and the quantity of narcotics seized during that period amounted to more than 182 kilograms.  “I would like to thank the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, as well as all cooperating security agencies, for their sincere and continuous efforts to fulfil their security responsibilities in protecting society from this dangerous scourge. Thanks also go to all those who contributed and cooperated from ministries, institutions and individuals in this field.  “I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for the reasonable efforts in serving the nation. May God protect Bahrain and bless it with security under the leadership of HM the King. May the peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you.” B Towards a worl d f ree of narcot i cs Bahrai n marks I nternat i ona l Day Agai ns t Drug Abuse
