United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on its PreventionWeb portal, is an achievement in advancing public safety awareness and community education on disaster risk reduction. He commended the support of His Excellency the Minister of Interior General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Civil Defence Council and said his instructions to maintain the platform, launched on 3 November 2023, as a national initiative to enhance public safety, are significant. He said this platform provides residents and citizens with vital safety information through a technology-based approach and a community-oriented security culture. The police chief pointed out that the platform is a product of the National Civil Emergency Committee’s vision and strategy, aligning with the Civil Defence Council’s objectives. He said it reflects a forward-looking approach that employs advanced technology to strengthen community preparedness and embed public safety principles in line with global shifts, supporting the development of an innovative and sustainable security system. He highlighted that the platform’s regional and international recognition stems from its continuous updates and development, interactive nature, and core mission to raise public awareness in civil protection.  He described the platform as one of Bahrain’s best practices in public awareness for disaster risk reduction and a model of the Kingdom’s vision for a safer society. It functions within a comprehensive national framework to boost societal resilience. Participants at the annual Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week in Geneva, including UN representatives, NGOs, the private sector, and academia, praised Bahrain’s platform. The platform aspires to be a national hub for information, early warning, and community-based training. It provides integrated services, including early alerts, emergency preparedness guides, and community partnership programmes.
