Among the advice recommended by the General Directorate of Civil Defence is to regularly inspect appliances to ensure the integrity of the wiring and connections and the absence of cracks or exposed wires. It is also important to perform regular maintenance on appliances, especially air conditioners and refrigerators. Avoid operating multiple appliances simultaneously on a single plug to avoid overloading electrical outlets, overheating, and fires. It is preferable to unplug unused appliances when leaving the house or when not needed to reduce energy consumption and minimize the risk of electrical short circuits. Appliances should be placed in well-ventilated areas and used high-quality, compliant appliances, ensuring they carry a certificate of conformity with the specifications approved by the General Directorate of Civil Defence. Avoid using appliances in damp areas or near water. An experienced electrician should be consulted to repair electrical appliances. Swimming pool safety He pointed out that the General Directorate of Civil Defence, represented by the Public Relations and Awareness Office, provides advice and guidance to swimming pool owners and patrons through field visits. He noted that among the most important guidelines recommended for swimming pools are: choosing the appropriate pool; ensuring the pool is clean and licensed by the relevant authorities; and safety measures: ensuring the availability of lifebuoys with approved specifications and a rescue rope, and close to the pool; and providing a first aid kit with instructions, in addition to a multi- purpose fire extinguisher. Electrical safety: Ensure the integrity of the pool’s electrical wiring and associated facilities. Avoid tampering with electrical connections and touching them with wet hands. Ensure that all electrical appliances are completely away from and isolated from water. Guidance instructions: Place clear signage at the pool entrance, written in both Arabic and English, explaining the instructions and rules of use. Cleanliness and maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness of the pool and the surrounding area. Check that the water is fresh and clean before using or renting it.
