Lt. Colonel Mohammed Khalid Al-Buainain ensures continued support and assistance for future programmes to enhance national capabilities to combat drugs. He said these programmes are supervised by the National Committee for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, headed by His Excellency. He explained that the second edition of the plan was launched during the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, from June 2022 to June 2026. He added the number of initiatives submitted by implementing partners has reached 122. He said combating this scourge is not limited to security work alone, but rather is a comprehensive responsibility that begins with the family, which plays a major role in combating it. “Parents are role models for their children and the first protective barrier against the scourge of drugs by observing their children’s behaviour and any changes that may occur in them, and not hesitating to seek help when any signs appear indicating that their children have fallen into the trap of drugs.” He explained that, based on the instructions of His Excellency, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science seeks to strengthen community partnership and build bridges of cooperation between the department and all components of Bahraini society, both citizens and residents. Securing ports He said the Anti-Narcotics Directorate is taking strict measures to implement international standards to secure all ports in cooperation with relevant authorities within the Ministry of Interior, represented by Customs Affairs, the Coast Guard Command, the Police Aviation and the Financial Investigation Directorate. “These measures are being implemented as part of international standards to secure all ports such as Bahrain International Airport, King Fahd Causeway, and seaports, using the latest technologies to ensure security and safety and detect drug smuggling operations.” He noted that, in accordance with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, security plans are being continuously updated to limit the smuggling and spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances, given that drug dealers resort to various methods and innovate new means to circumvent security measures. “This is being matched by the improved performance of security agencies, who use the highest levels of training and technology to apprehend drug dealers. Recent cases have even revealed sophisticated methods for smuggling these poisons, which are destructive to young people.” He explained that the smuggling method varies
