It is named after the renowned Bahraini poet Ibrahim Al Arrayed, who was a leading figure in poetry and literature in Bahrain for over fifty years. The House of Poetry was opened on April 3, 2006, and has become a hub for poetry-related events, as well as a base for researchers and lovers of poetry. The house was built in the mid-20th century in the Bahraini colonial style and is located on the Palace Road, leading to the Shaikh Hamad Palace. Ibrahim Al Arrayed acquired the building and lived there until the late 1970s. The house now houses a vast collection of books and works by the foremost figures in the field of poetry in the region. Ibrahim Al Arrayed, the namesake of the Poetry House, was born in Bombay, India, in 1908 to a Bahraini father and Iraqi mother. He grew up in India and returned to Bahrain in 1927, where he immersed himself in the works of prominent Arab poets. Al Arrayed started his career as an English language teacher
