Security Department continues to use methods that combine trained dogs and modern technological devices. “Each represents a vital tool that significantly contributes to achieving security objectives.” He explained that dogs and modern technological devices are essential supporting means in detecting prohibited materials. “The Customs Security Department is keen to achieve integration and coordination between these methods to ensure the accuracy of verification and confirmation of suspicious cases, which contributes to making effective seizure decisions.” He said this integration ensures the protection of the rights of travelers and cargo owners and enhances the efficiency of inspection operations at all customs ports. Professional procedures He emphasized that, as part of ensuring the safety of lives and property at customs ports, the Canine Unit follows precise and professional procedures when there is suspicion of the presence of hazardous materials, especially explosives. “This involves evacuating the site and establishing a safe area to protect lives and property. The unit then contacts the Customs Operations Room to inform the relevant authority - the Security Directorate.” He said the Ports Security Directorate, in turn, notifies the specialized teams, specifically the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the Special Security Forces, to handle the hazardous materials safely and effectively. Achieving strategic objectives He added that the Canine Unit translates the strategic objectives of Customs Affairs by enhancing effective control at ports and improving the performance and efficiency of inspections to protect society from security and economic risks. “It focuses on developing the capabilities of its personnel. All of this is achieved through well- planned field strategies that ensure rapid response and effective performance.” He noted that the unit is working to implement its strategic plans related to increasing the efficiency of its canine units through specialized training courses, diversifying their recruitment sources between imports and local production, and strengthening partnerships with other institutions and entities to exchange expertise. He stressed that the Impact Wing Unit is an integral part of the Customs Affairs security system, and its primary role is to protect the homeland and society, praising the unit’s staff for their efforts and sacrifices, and noting the continued dedication to developing capabilities and raising the level of performance in service of the homeland’s security.
