BRIEFS T he Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received a delegation of staff members from the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives as part of their visit to Bahrain. He welcomed the delegation, affirming that the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Project is one of the pioneering initiatives stemming from the Reform Project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the guidance of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. He noted that these factors have contributed to the project’s success and the achievement of its objectives. The meeting reviewed the key goals and achievements of the project, including awareness and training programmes and rehabilitation plans aimed at reforming beneficiaries and reintegrating them into society in a positive manner. The delegation also toured the facilities of the Open Prisons Complex, which included educational buildings equipped with the latest technologies, residential units offering various living services, and a sports club, where they observed the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate beneficiaries to the highest standards. Top US de l egat i on v i s i t s Open Pri sons Comp l ex BD15 ,000 wort h of drugs sei zed Man he l d for exp l o i t i ng ch i l dren The Interior Ministry has announced that as part of ongoing security efforts carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science to protect society from drug addiction, the directorate, in two separate cases, arrested three individuals in possession of around 3.6 KG of narcotics, with an estimated street value exceeding BD15,000. The directorate said that investigations into received information about the two cases led to the identification of the suspects and their arrest in possession of the drugs. The Ministry of Interior has announced that the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security arrested a 67-year-old man for exploiting and luring several children and harassing them by calling out to them and offering money while standing in public areas. The unit explained that after receiving information on the matter, specialised teams carried out investigations, gathering evidence that led to identifying the suspect. All necessary legal measures were taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution. The unit stressed the importance of family awareness and continuous parental supervision, urging parents to build trust with their children and encourage them to report any harassment or exploitation attempts.
