182 convicts cover in alternative sanctions

The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa announced on Wednesday that legal proceedings were taken to implement the roles of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law for 182 inmates from the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centres. With the new beneficiaries, the total inmate covered under the law reached 4693 individuals.

He highlighted the importance of the law in protecting family and society stability and rehabilitating the beneficiaries. He asserted that the endorsement of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Royal Decree 24 of 2021 that allows replacing the jail penalty with one or more alternative sanctions before serving a sentence contributes to the expansion of the implementation of the law and moving forward in development in the reform system.  

The Director-General attributed the success to the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to continue the expansion in the implementation of the law and the start of the open prison programme. He said that the law was a turning point in the human rights system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  

He highlighted that the alternative sanctions project is a national project to promote human rights and its remarkable outcomes assets its success.
