RAP launches human rights diplomacy programme

Royal Academy of Police (RAP) has concluded a specialised training on human rights diplomacy in cooperation with Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies.

Commander Brigadier Fawaz Al Hassan, Ambassador Dr Arwa Hassan Al-Sayed, Head of the Human Rights Affairs Sector at the Foreign Ministry, and several specialists attended.

The training was held from December 11 to 25 and was part of joint goals to reinforce and develop human rights concepts. It attracted 56 participants from the Bahrain Defence Force, Interior Ministry, Foreign Ministry, National Guard Presidency, National Intelligence Agency, Human Rights Institute for Human Rights, Bahrain Institute of Political Development, Ombudsman and NGOs.

The programme aimed to reinforce international human rights standards and integrate them into the diplomatic and police operations and the activities of human rights societies. It was also dedicated to enhancing human rights awareness.

The programme dimensions included the National Human Rights Plan, the basic human rights concepts, human rights agreement and laws and the constitutional and legal framework of human rights in Bahrain. It included various workshops.

RAP Commander said that the programme showcased Bahrain’s interest in promoting human rights and the role of government programmes in supporting human rights protection efforts.

He added that the training was part of RAP efforts to draft the national programme for capacity building for the enforcement and the rule of law and criminal justice within the framework of the National Plan for Human Rights (2022-2026).

Ambassador Al-Sayed said the programme was a remarkable step toward enhancing human rights awareness and training. It coincided with World Human Rights Day to show the commitment of Bahrain to human rights standards. She said that the National Human Rights plan approved in April considers training and awareness as its main foundations.

At the end of the meeting, the RAP Commander thanked the Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies for the fruitful cooperation for the programme’s success. He also thanked the participants and wished them all the best.
