The commitment of the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation is reflected in its legal duties and dedication to providing living, education, sports and fun services for inmates per the Reformation and Rehabilitation Organisation law.
The facilities are part of the integration of human rights in the operations of the Interior Ministry to protect the rights of inmates to rehabilitate them for the community.
The directorate is dedicated to enforcing the law on inmates and following procedures at the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre per the clauses of the Reformation and Rehabilitation Organisation law. Furthermore, it cooperates with the Health Ministry, which provides comprehensive healthcare to inmates at modern medical clinics or hospitals. If required, medicines are periodically provided, along with cleaning and disinfecting of the buildings to protect the hygiene of inmates. In addition, each of them is provided with clothing and food that suit their health conditions.
In education, the directorate takes the required steps to encourage inmates to pursue their education and learn new skills to benefit them after serving their sentences. It also organises sports and fun competitions and allows them to practice their religious rituals according to their faith. Religious lectures are also organised.
Inmates join vocational and handicraft workshops that enable them to receive monthly income and gain valuable skills that benefit them after leaving the centre. The training courses are being carried out in cooperation with the Nasser Centre for Training and Vocational Rehabilitation.
The directorate is dedicated to enabling inmates to interact with their families through weekly phone calls, video calls and exceptional calls in certain situations. It also offers two visits for inmates each month. Inmates get all their rights as citizens, such as renewing their IDs and passports and following up on their financial affairs, social assistance and housing services. Inmates who want to continue their education are provided with textbooks in coordination with the Education Ministry. Inmates are also allowed to practice their religious freedom during the month of Muharram by allocating appropriate locations to carry out the rituals in a safe and healthy environment. They are given enough time to practice the rituals in the morning and evening.
