Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, attended the celebration to mark World Defence Day. During the event, he delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings and congratulation of His Excellency Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa to civil defence personnel for their efforts in protecting public and private property.
He highlighted the support of HE Interior Minister to develop civil defence as part of efforts to enhance various Interior Ministry sectors, including human resources development through capability building and training. He said that this year’s celebration theme, “Role of Technical Systems in Risk Assessment”, focuses on using modern technology to face risks and disasters by predicting them, setting proactive plans and managing them to limit damages. He said that modern technology is essential to speed up the exchange of information between concerned authorities.
During the celebration, the Chief honoured civil defence officers and other ranked for their distinguished rescue and firefighting operations and training. Some civil defence partners and supporters were honoured too. In addition, the Chief inspected the first batch of advanced vehicles introduced to the civil defence fleet as part of the firefighting and rescuing development plan.
