The CEO of the National Financial Intelligence Centre Shaikha May bint Mohammed Al Khalifa was selected as the new Egmont Group Vice-Chair and, for the second time, the Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa at The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units.
She was elected during the 29th general meeting of the group in Abu Dhabi, which reviewed cooperation and coordination in fighting money laundering and terrorism financing.
The election is a new national and international achievement of Bahrain’s various milestones.
The CEO hailed the support of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Committee to Combat Extremism, Terrorism and its Financing and Money Laundering. She said that his backing contributed to reinforcing national efforts and regional and international achievements of Bahrain.
She indicated that Bahrain's attainment of this position in the group is remarkable and confirms its legislative and legal structure, which would enhance its position and reputation regarding prohibiting and combating money laundering and terrorism financing.
It is worth noting that the CEO has been an Egmont Group associate member since 2008 and held the position of Vice President of the Membership and Compliance Working Group. It has several contributions to the group's projects with 170 Financial Investigation Units.
