Concerning posts on social media, Anti-Narcotics Directorate: suspicious foreign drug dealing accounts are being traced

MOI

Concerning reports on social media and local press about anonymous individuals contacting citizens and residents via the WhatsApp app for drug dealing, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science said an investigation into the reports indicates that the suspicious accounts are managed from outside Bahrain. It highlighted that procedures are being taken to monitor and trace the sources in coordination with the concerned authorities to take legal steps.

The Anti-Narcotics Directorate has been making significant efforts to fight illicit drugs and arrest dealers and gangs that randomly target society members through social media. Legal steps were taken against those arrested in Bahrain, in which they were referred to the Public Prosecution. The search continues for those living aboard in cooperation with security and law enforcement bodies.

The General Directorate also highlighted its awareness efforts through the Criminal Media Division, including 410 lectures for 25,000 individuals, 12 mobile exhibitions and 16 campaigns from the beginning of 2022 until the mid of 2023.

To promote community partnership, citizens and residents must report complaints, observations and assistance through the anti-drug hotline 996. Confidentiality is protected.
