The National Financial Intelligence Centre has arrested a private financial company employee for receiving funds from drug trafficking crimes and converting them into cryptocurrencies through his work in providing the peer-to-peer (p2p) service.
The National Center indicated investigations and evidence collection operations were initiated as soon as the information were received, which resulted in the identification and arrest of the aforementioned. Investigations indicated that he had opened a channel through which he received money and used it in cryptocurrencies in violation to Law on Prohibition and Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.
The National Center also indicated that the necessary legal proceedings are being taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution. The centre also called on the public to exercise caution and avoid dealing with unofficial channels.
