First Bahrain-Jordan Joint Security Committee meeting held

The Bahrain-Jordan Joint Security Committee held its first meeting led by the Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan and the Jordanian Director of Public Security, Major-General AbeidAllah Maaitah.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chief welcomed the Jordanian official and the accompanied delegation. He expressed sincere gratitude for the brotherly ties between the two countries led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and his brother, Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. 

The Chief hailed the support of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for all security work to promote the status of Bahrain to contribute to the development of regional and international security cooperation through signed agreements and memorandums of understanding. 

He highlightedthat the meeting was held per an MoU signed between the two countries to promote security cooperation and coordination to discuss various important security topics. He said that the regional security happenings and challenges require joint efforts to protect stability and promote Arab security work. 

Meanwhile, the Jordanian official thanked the Chief for the excellent hospitality and organisation of the meeting. He expressed his gratitude to Jordan for its developing ties with Bahrain because of the support of the leaders of both countries.  He highlighted the importance of the meeting and its role in achieving joint security goals. 

The meeting discussed topics on the agenda to develop security cooperation and coordination. The meeting approved the formation of work teams that meet periodically to review cooperation in public security, counterterrorism, operations, visas, training, education and administration.  

Aspects of cooperation were also discussed in exchanging expertise and experiences in combating drugs, money laundering and terrorist financing, and combating cyber and economic crimes and corruption, in addition to exchanging experiences in community policing, disaster management, environmental emergencies, civil protection and civil defence. It was also agreed to organise Joint security exercises.

Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, President of Customs, CEO of National Cyber Security Centre, Deputy Chief of Public Security, Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, Director-General of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, Director-General of Traffic, Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training and some senior officers attended. 

The Chief of Public Security received the Jordanian official and the accompanying delegation upon their arrival to Bahrain on Saturday.
