Out of the dedication of the Interior Ministry to achieve sustainable development goals through remarkable initiatives, including the 4th goal of good education and the 17th goal of making partnerships to achieve objectives, the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing has recently held a graduation ceremony of the first batch of the programme’s beneficiaries.
The celebration was part of the Interior Ministry's efforts to implement sustainable development initiatives by rehabilitating and training the beneficiaries to follow the correct path to be reintegrated into society. The ceremony included honouring winners of outstanding projects, success partners and supporters from government bodies, companies and national organisations.
The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, said that the programme represents the humanitarian and civil values of the reform project of His Majesty the King and meets the sustainable development goals. He highlighted the successes and efforts for ongoing development in systems and programmes. He also noted the support provided to the alternative sanctions project and the open prisons programme by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. He said that Bahrain had become an international model for launching remarkable initiatives and humanitarian programmes.
He said the open prisons programme could be summarised by three words: “Mistake, Correction, Success”, which they are declared today as its theme because it focuses on reform and tolerance for success.
Notably, the first phase of the first batch covered 48 candidates, of which 96% reached the second phase. Thirteen beneficiaries obtained permanent jobs in partnership with the private sector, and the success of the first batch paved the way for the second batch of 57 candidates.
