The Interior Ministry participated in the Working group meeting on the smuggling of migrants 2023 under the theme "Strengthening the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols to it" in Vienna.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs, Brigadier Hamood Al Omairi, highlighted that the meeting discussed the legal and procedural dimensions of smuggling migrants by sea, international mechanisms to combat this growing phenomenon at the international level, ways to protect migrants from falling victim to smuggling and human trafficking networks, and developing legislation and procedures to ensure their protection, in addition to reviewing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
