The delegations taking part in a conference organised by the Ombudsman visited on Thursday the Open Prisons Complex of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, in the presence of the Ombudswoman, Ghada Habib.
During the visit, the Director of Alternative Sentencing, Captain Jassim Al Dossairi, briefed them about the efforts of the General Directorate in expanding the enforcement of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law and the open prisons programme, along with highlighting rehabilitation and training programmes offered to the beneficiaries. He discussed the goals of the open prisons programme as one of the active programmes to promote security and human rights.
He pointed out that the open prisons programme is considered a civilised and humanitarian project within the framework of the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the keenness of the wise government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He continued that the Interior Ministry is dedicated per the instructions of His Excellency Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa to adopt the latest international standards in the alternative sanctions and open prisons to promote criminal justice and human rights.
The delegations toured the complex and learned about its facilities, including modern education systems, housing units and services. They hailed the efforts of the General Directorate in increasing the number of beneficiaries and hailed the advanced experience.
