His Highness Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa inaugurated the Word Diabetes Day event, with the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. The event was held in cooperation with the Bahrain Diabetes Society and BAPCO Energies, at Princess Sabeeka Park in Awali, in the presence of Deputy Southern Governor Colonel Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al Khayyat, Chief Medical Officer of Awali Hospital Rtd Major-Gen Dr. Tariq Hameed and a number of officials.
His Highness the Southern Governor asserted on this occasion that the purpose of the event is to promote awareness of the importance of protecting the health of individuals and society, supporting community partnership frameworks, demonstrating its cooperation with various relevant institutions and associations, as well as supporting the governorate's objectives and messages relating to serving the community. He affirmed that this event corresponds to the governorate's efforts to improve public health in society, particularly through education and awareness. It is imperative that the governorate monitors the most prominent developments and identifies the health and community needs of its residents as part of its sustainable development goals and its continuing efforts to adopt Riffa as a healthy city.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and President of the Bahrain Diabetes Society, His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, confirmed the annual diabetes awareness is being held in partnership with the Southern Governorate.
The Chief Medical Officer of Awali Hospital and Rtd Major Gen Dr. Tariq Hameed explained that the purpose of the event is to raise awareness for healthy lifestyles and to avoid diabetes and chronic diseases.
The Southern Governorate’s Director of Social Programmes and Community Affairs Mr Mohammed Hassan Al Faw also delivered a speech in which he explained the pioneering role of the Southern Governorate in adopting health initiatives.
Several health events were also held where His Highness the Southern Governor inaugurated the awareness exhibition that featured several pillars about diabetic health culture and healthy lifestyle methods.
