The Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, inaugurated a workshop on a project to apply artificial intelligence technology to monitor and increase recovery rates from addiction that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science organised.
The Chief valued the interest and support of His Excellency Interior Minister to all the Interior Ministry’s directorates to promote security protection, law enforcement and crime combating.
He stressed his happiness that the adoption of advanced programmes and modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence technology, in the services provided by the Ministry has become a tangible reality, as these technologies have proven their success and effectiveness in supporting the performance and productivity of institutions by automating processes and understanding data on a large scale, which brings many benefits. He indicated that Bahrain has the human competencies qualified to benefit from these technologies and achieve the goals represented in the success of this national project.
He hailed the winning of the Recovery programme of the General Directorate of the Stevie International Award for helping addicts recover from their addiction. He valued the international milestone for the importance of such programmes in providing various services for citizens. He wished for the workshop to achieve its goals, thanking the Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, Brigadier Abdulaziz Al Rumaihi, the directorate’s affiliates and the project’s supervision, along with the workshop’s organisers.
Meanwhile, the Director-General said that the formation of a national project to monitor and increase addiction recovery rates through artificial intelligence is considered the first of its kind in the world.
The project aims to introduce artificial intelligence capabilities of computers that simulate human mental capabilities in understanding the variables and factors that affect the behaviour of addicts, which contributes to developing the necessary policies and solutions for decision-making at the individual or national level.
