Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, has met the President of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, Douglas A. Silliman. He met him on the sidelines of his visit to the United States.
The US official welcomed Shaikh Khalid, affirming the importance of the bilateral ties between the two friendly countries. He congratulated the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing for receiving international accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA). He said the achievement confirms that the open prisons programme relies on the best international human rights practices.
The Director-General said Bahrain is among the pioneering countries in implementing the alternative sentencing project and open prisons programme. He attributed the success to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He hailed the institute's role in promoting ties between the United States and the Gulf region.
