Al Amn FM focuses on news scam methods

MOI

The Head of the Financial Crimes Division of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security asserted during Al Amn FM on Thursday the various and ever-changing scam cases. One of the new methods is pretending to represent an app or a website by exploiting the Google search engine and being visible as an official sponsor of an organisation.

He urged scam victims to report their cases through the hotline 992 for the necessary steps and contact the bank to stop the transaction. He highlighted the significance of activating the verification feature for private accounts on social media to limit exposure to scams and hacking of accounts to access user data.

The officer affirmed that individuals should be aware of modern scam methods and differentiate between trustworthy and suspicious links by checking the bank account and calling the company to verify the validity of the service.

He said that the directorate coordinates with the Central Bank of Bahrain, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, and banks to learn the latest developments and scam methods to block fraudulent links and seize bank accounts that scammers use to transfer money abroad.

Finally, he said that scams are cross-border crimes and that youth are the primary victims of financial crimes for using smart devices more than any segment of society.  He said that the directorate holds lectures at schools, universities, and organisations, along with social media awareness through WhatsApp, which people can join through a link at the directorate’s Instagram page acees_bh.
