Jordanian Shalabiya eliminates Fognini in the MOI Bahrain Tennis Challenger

Jordanian Abdullah Shalbaya qualified for the quarter-finals of the singles category in the Ministry of Interior Bahrain Tennis Challenger after defeating the second-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini in an intense match that ended with scores of 3/6, 7/6 and 6/0 during the round of sixteen of the tournament being held, on the Public Security Officers Club courts in Gudaibiya from February from 11 to 17.

The fourth seed in the tournament, Czech Jakub Menšík, was able to eliminate Nerman Fatic from the Bahamas after defeating him with scores of 6/4 and 6/1. At the same time, Marco Trungelliti succeeded in defeating Tunisian Aziz Dougaz with a score of 7/6, 6/7 and 7/6 in an exited match that exceeded three hours, as Kazakhstani Mikhail Kukushkin achieved a victory over Alexander Richard with scores of 6/4 and 6/4. Damir Dzumhur from the Bahamas also defeated Adrian Andreev with a score of 6/0 and 6/1.

Meanwhile, the French Daniel Rincon defeated the French Laurent Lokoli with scores of 3/6, 6/1, and 6/4. The British, Billy Harris, beat the Portuguese, Gastao Elias, with scores of 6/2, 6/2. The fifth seed in the tournament, the French Richard Gasquet, also beat the Italian Peter Buldorini by scores of 7/6 and 6/3.

The doubles quarter-finals witnessed the victory of the Japanese duo Toshihide Matsui and Kaito Uesugi over the Swedish Filip Bergevi and the Dutch Mick Veldheer with scores of 6/7, 6/3, and 11/9 and the victory of the duo the Tunisian Aziz Dougaz and the Czech Dalibor Svrcina over the Czech Roman Jebavy and David Vega Hernandez with scores of 6/2, 2. /6 and 10/5, so that the duo, the American Vasil Kirkov and the Finnish Patrik Niklas Salminen achieved victory over Luca Margaroli and Goncalo Oliveira with score of 6/4, 4/6 and 10/8. The Italian duo Marco Bortolotti and Alessandro Giannessi continued their brilliance and achieved victory over the Italian Fabio Fognini and the Indian Sathi Reddy Chirala with scores of 6/1 and 6/3, respectively.

The duo, Spanish Sergio Martos Gornes and the Greek Petros Tsitsipas, also defeated the duo British Billy Harris and the German Rudolf Molleker with scores of 2/6, 7/6 and 10/7. The duo of Jordanian Abdullah Shelbayh and the Spanish Daniel Rincon defeated the duo Damir Dzumhur and Nerman Fatic from the Bahamas with scores of 7/6,  6/7 and 10/3. In the last match, the duo Marc-Andrea Huesler and Alexander Richard defeated Bahraini Yousef Qaed and Australian Anthony Popyrin with scores of 6/2 and 6/1, respectively.

During the exhibition held on the sideline of the tournament, various activities were held to mark the National Action Charter anniversary, including a performance by the Police Band. 

On Thursday, four matches will be held in the quarter-finals of the tournament in the singles competition and five games in the doubles category.
