Bahraini referee Ahmed Al Hawaj, Chairman of the Bahrain Tennis Referee Committee, thanked His Excellency the Minister of the Interior for his great interest and guidance in organising such a world tournament, the ATP Challenger Tennis Championship, in its third edition. He said the referees in Bahrain constantly improve, and the organisation is better in every tournament.
He revealed that members of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) have indicated that the Ministry of Interior Bahrain Tennis Challenger was one of the top 5 tournaments in the world in 2023, and this reflects the significant development in organising the event in terms of providing a wonderful experience for players and fans.
For his part, the Italian player Fabio Fognini ranked second in the tournament, confirmed that he was happy with his first tour in Bahrain and his participation in this event after his injury. He said: “The first thing that comes to my mind is enjoying the players’ performance in the tournament despite my exit from the round of 16 after the winning of the rising Jordanian player Abdullah Shelbayh.
For his part, Tunisian player Aziz Dougaz expressed his happiness for participating in the competitions, which he considers a pride for the Arabs by hosting such a tournament in Bahrain. Regarding the organisation, he said: “The organisation of this tournament is very wonderful, and thanks go out to those in charge of this tournament.” He added that he hopes to win his next matches in the doubles category after being eliminated in round 16 in the singles category.
