Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa received the British Ambassador to Bahrain, Alastair Long.
The Director-General welcomed the envoy, praising the distinguished relations and close partnership between the two countries. He appreciated the joint efforts between the two countries at various levels.
He pointed out that the Alternative Sentencing and the Open Prisons Project reflected the development of the correction system and criminal justice in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the era of His Majesty the King, hailing the support of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Director-General pointed out that the Kingdom pioneered cultural projects that promote the reformist approach and reinforce justice and human rights, adding that the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Project is the first in the Middle East, stressing the support of HE Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in developing the innovative correctional programmes.
The Director-General highlighted the project’s goals and the achievements attained through the provision of educational and training programmes and rehabilitation plans to correct the inmates’ behaviours to gradually reintegrate them into society
The British ambassador hailed the leading role of the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Project in the field of human rights.
