Director-General of Civil Defence Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi asserted the importance of adhering to safety rules at home during Ramadan. Also, he asserted the importance of being familiar with preventive measures to avoid accidents and fires.
He asserted the importance of having a fire alarm system and the importance of the regular check-up. Safety equipment such as portable fire extinguishers and blankets for extinguishing fires (fire blanket) should be available at home, in addition to checking and maintaining electrical systems and home appliances regularly and avoiding using any damaged or unsafe devices.
The Director-General also stressed the necessity of following the safety requirements for the kitchen by ensuring good ventilation when cooking and avoiding leaving foods while cooking unattended. It is also important to keep the kitchen clean, especially extractor fans. He pointed to the importance of having an evacuation plan and an assembly point in case of fire and avoiding accumulating flammable materials at home, such as broken-down furniture, paints, fuel, and other flammable materials.
The General Directorate of Civil Defence is conducting awareness campaigns during Ramadan for households and provides awareness teams in some malls to enhance awareness.
