The Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan chaired on Sunday the 3rd extraordinary meeting of the National Civil Emergency Management Committee. Representatives of the concerned authorities attended the meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, the Chief welcomed the attendees and conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, for the panel’s efforts in dealing with the unstable weather and heavy rain impacts.
He was briefed on operations carried out by concerned ministries and authorities during the rain, along with challenges. The meeting explored solutions and procedures to overcome issues related to heavy rain. He hailed the proactive plans and measures and services to deal with the rain.
The Chief asserted efforts by all concerned authorities to deal with the spread of gas smell in some areas, highlighting that Bapco, in coordination with the Ministry of Oil and Environment, the General Directorate of Civil Defence and backup authorities, take the required procedures to limit and control the spread of gases per setting plans. He highlighted the importance of setting different scenarios to list risks and implement precautionary plans to protect the safety of citizens and residents, in addition to enhancing awareness in dealing with such accidents per international standards. At the end of the meeting, the Chief directed to form a sub-committee to list the positive and negative aspects of dealing with the rain to refer its recommendations to the Civil Defence Council and drafting periodic reports by the National Emergency Management Centre in coordination with the concerned authorities.
