The Chief of Public Security, Lt-General Tariq Al Hassan, chaired the National Civil Emergency Committee meeting. Representatives from ministries, concerned authorities, and Bapco Refinery attended to discuss the impacts of the oil tank leak.
The Chief was briefed on the leak accident and the steps taken by Bapco’s emergency team, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, and concerned authorities to secure the site and deal with the leak per setting plans and security and safety standards to ensure the safety of the surrounding areas. The meeting reviewed all expected scenarios and set plans to deal with them professionally. The Chief asserted that the committee is following up on the developments of the incident and the public’s complaints regarding the gas smells in some areas. He highlighted that awareness information and instructions about such incidents per international standards could be found on the National Civil Protection Platform. He hailed the National Communication Centre initiative in cooperation with concerned authorities to release information until dealing with the impacts of the incident per technical procedures, systems, and standards. He urged the public to seek information from official sources and avoid rumours.
