The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received a staff delegation from the US Senate and House of Representatives.
He welcomed the US delegation and asserted the continuation of the implementation of the royal directives to expand the enforcement of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law and consider the social and humanitarian situations of convicts.
He said that the alternative sanctions project and open prisons are part of the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He said that the Interior Ministry, led by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, is dedicated to adopting the best international standards in implementing the alternative sanctions and open prisons through providing rehabilitation and training services and programmes to beneficiaries.
The meeting reviewed the open prisons’ goals to promote human rights through enhancing awareness of the beneficiaries and reintegrating them into society. The meeting also highlighted the rehabilitation and training programmes provided to the beneficiaries.
After that, the delegation toured the open prison complex and learned about its educational buildings, which are equipped with the latest educational system, housing units, and other facilities.
