The General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing was part of Bahrain’s delegation that discussed the second periodic report of the Kingdom presented to the Arab Human Rights Charter Committee of the Arab League from April 23 to 24 in Egypt.
The directorate explores Bahrain’s achievements in alternative sentencing and open prisons. It expressed appreciation for the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
It highlighted the royal pardon for inmates convicted in riots and criminal cases and the directives of HM the King to expand alternative sanctions by including more inmates in alternative sanctions programmes and open prisons. The directorate also explained the privileges and goals of the alternative sanctions programmes and open prisons.
