Director of the National Emergency Management Centre Major Hamad Subah Siwar, at the General Directorate of Civil Defence, asserted that the Civil Defence Council, headed by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, was keen to form an integrated system to deal with emergency situations by preparing a national emergency strategy and managing and analysing risks and threats, in addition to having a national risk registry to prevent and reduce crises and disasters.
He indicated during the “Amn FM” radio show that the system included conducting joint institutional exercises and training to deal with any emergency and carrying out awareness-raising initiatives aimed at educating the community on ways to properly deal with emergencies, in a way that preserves their security and safety and enhances civil protection. Major Hamad Subah Siwar added that the National Emergency Management Centre works in an integrated manner by preparing the National Register of Risks and Threats.
He explained that the National Emergency Management Centre is an interactive platform, which is a reference and a means for education and awareness in emergencies, based on the principles of the National Emergency Strategy and the plans and procedures of the Civil Defence Council to enhance public safety, and it relies on community partnership.
For her part, the Director-General of the Northern Area Municipality, Engineer Lamya Al-Fadhala, confirmed that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture made exceptional efforts in accordance with an integrated proactive system to deal with the rain impacts.
Engineer Hussain Abdullah, Head of the Municipal Development Coordination Section at the Ministry of Works, explained that The Ministry took a number of proactive measures to deal with the rain impacts, as the rain emergency team distributed over the four governorates began pumping water immediately, and a field team was formed to follow- up on all reports and respond to them through the National Emergency Management Centre, in addition to activating hotlines to receive reports of rainwater pooling on main roads.
