Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing receives UAE delegation

Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa received a delegation from the United Arab Emirates.

The Director-General welcomed the delegation. Cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two brotherly countries in the field of alternative sentencing and topics of interest were discussed. 

He also asserted that the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme is one of the royal initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which embodies the human values and civilisational principles of Majesty’s era, pointing out to the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The Director-General added that the programme has attained qualitative and global achievements in the field of human rights due to the instructions of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, which resulted in obtaining the international accreditation certificate from the American Correctional Association. 

The delegation was briefed on the complex’s facilities, and the various services and rehabilitation programmes provided by the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing to the programme’s beneficiaries, in addition to reviewing the advantages and stages of development of the civilised project for the Penal Code and Alternative Measures, and its expansions since its launch in 2018.

The delegation visited the Bahrain Small and Medium Enterprises Society (SMES), where they were briefed on the mechanisms of joint cooperation and coordination between the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing and the Bahrain Chamber in the field of Qualifying and training beneficiaries of alternative sanctions on entrepreneurship and preparing them to engage in the labour market. The delegation was also briefed on official procedures related to granting licenses, in order to enable beneficiaries to launch and manage their projects.

The programme also included a visit to the Taafi Drug Recovery Association, during which the delegation was briefed on the contents of the Taafi Recovery Programme, one of the rehabilitation and training programmes provided to beneficiaries of alternative sentencing based on instilling and strengthening human and citizenship values ​​for the beneficiaries, in addition to educating them on the dangers of drugs and assisting them in their psychological treatment to reintegrate them into society. 

The delegation also visited the Crime Prevention Directorate, which offers the TAMAM and Samaa Programmes, which are of rehabilitation and training programmes for beneficiaries of alternative sentencing. 

The UAE Ministry of Interior’s delegation praised the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme, noting that it is a unique national experience that has been designed and prepared with professionalism, expressing the importance of enhancing cooperation, joint coordination and exchanging experiences in the field of alternative sentencing.
