Chief of Public Security Lt. General Tariq bin Hasan Al Hasan asserted that the Coast Guard continued its efforts in collaboration with the competent bodies to preserve the wildlife and fish wealth in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain, by taking all measures that regulate fishing.
Chief of Public Security added that per the instructions of His Excellency Interior Minister, programmes and plans are being implemented to ensure a safe maritime environment as the Coast Guard is fully prepared and works in accordance with the latest technological and training systems.
Also, he explained that during the period from February to August, a total of 59 inspection campaigns were carried out to address marine violations and monitor the sailors' adherence to fishing regulations. The campaigns aimed to ensure the validity of marine licenses, and the availability of marine safety tools and to verify the safety procedures of workers on fishing boats.
The total number of cases seized by the Coast Guard during the same period were 70 cases, while the seized marine wealth reached 2,532 kilograms (about two and a half tons), 103 illegal nets were confiscated and 192 violators were referred to the Public Prosecution.
The Chief of Public Security pointed out that the maritime security campaigns would be intensified to protect marine security and wealth by addressing illegal fishing activities and enforcing the law in coordination with the relevant authorities. Also, he asserted that legal steps would be taken against the violators to preserve maritime wealth, and the awareness campaigns would continue to address seafarers and sailors.
