Deputy Chief of Public Security Major General Dr Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa chaired the Second Meeting of Arab Ministers on Disaster Risk Reduction held at the League of Arab States in Cairo.
Deputy Chief of Public Security welcomed the attendees and pointed out in his speech that the Kingdom of Bahrain with its civilised values based on human rights, is working to enhance Arab integration in the field of disaster risk reduction based on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Also, he stressed that maintaining security and enhancing public safety is a top priority as per the modern security vision led by His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, which targets all types of crime and protects society from risks and disasters, whether in the real world or in cyberspace, which has become an arena for cybercrimes and illegal acts.
Deputy Chief of Public Security pointed out that disaster risk reduction receives significant attention in the Kingdom of Bahrain through its vision to achieve sustainability, security, stability, and disaster risk management, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. The National Emergency Strategy is an initiative aimed at achieving sustainability and preparedness to confront and recover from disasters, ensuring resilience to drive development towards greater progress and prosperity, and enhancing regional and international cooperation to reduce disaster risks.
He Clarifies that the Kingdom of Bahrain has consistently participated actively in all meetings related to the disaster risk reduction mechanism, believing in the importance of enhancing Arab integration and implementing the objectives of the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction. This is aimed at progressing towards effective Arab cooperation in emergency preparedness, strengthening a qualified Arab infrastructure for response, and laying the foundations for a comprehensive system concerned with transboundary risks, which requires coordination that covers the stages of emergency.
The Deputy Chief of Public Security emphasised the importance of awareness as a key aspect of the disaster management system. He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has been keen to use technology to spread awareness and education about emergency and disaster risks through the launch of the National Civil Protection Platform in 2023. Additionally, the National Early Warning System was approved to protect lives and property and enhance the emergency crisis and disaster management system.
During the meeting, a number of related topics listed on the agenda were discussed, in addition to the approval of the logo for the Arab Disaster Risk Reduction Day 2025.
