The Coast Guard, as the authority concerned with maritime security and safety, registered from January to July 2024, a total of 820 maritime violations, including violations related to the registration and licensing law, catching small fish and shrimps, using floating fishing nets and fishing in marine reserves. The Coast Guard highlighted that as part of protecting wildlife and fisheries in the regional waters, 1,661 KG of fish and shrimps were seized, while the Coast Guard patrols rescued and assisted 471 individuals and 318 boats.
In the same context, the Coast Guard calls upon fishermen and seafarers to follow the laws and the instructions of patrols to stop their boats for inspection. It noted that not cooperating with them is a violation penalised by the law with up to one year in jail and a fine of up to BD2000, per article 17 of decree law 32 of 2020 regarding the rules of registration, safety and control of small vessels.
