The General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing has replaced the imprisonment of 340 inmates of the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre after studying the cases and implementing the legal requirements. Also, 99 inmates have joined the Open Prisons Programme, bringing the total number of beneficiaries from the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law since its inception to 7,441.
The move is in line with the royal directives to expand the law's implementation and consider the inmates' social and humanitarian conditions.
The cases have been selected in coordination with the Public Prosecution, and the list of the nominated inmates has been referred to the judge for approval.
The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, affirmed continuous implementation of the royal directives to enforce the law as an added value for the protection of human rights in Bahrain. They are based on the noble values and principles of His Majesty King Hamad Al Khalifa's reform era. He also valued the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the reintegration of the beneficiaries into society.
He also praised His Excellency the Interior Minister’s instructions to follow up on the law's implementation and provide rehabilitation and training programmes for the beneficiaries.
The Director-General said that the programmes offered to the beneficiaries contribute to their reintegration into society. He thanks the concerned authorities and organisations for implementing the alternative sanctions.
