His Excellency Ministry of Interior Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence NPRA, and Chairman of Anti-Violence and Addiction Committee Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, visited the Permanent Observation Mission of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to the United Nations. He was received by Ambassador Adel Al-Mahri, the Permanent Observer. Present were Ambassador Abdullah bin Abdullatif, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Geneva, Mr. Ali Ahmad Amini, Director of the “Maan”( Together) Programme, and Mr. Nawar Abdullah Al-Mutawa, Human Rights Advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
HE Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa emphasised the importance of the role of the Permanent Observation Mission of the GCC and its efforts to achieve coordination, integration, and interconnection among member states in all fields, leading to their unity through deepening and strengthening the existing links and cooperation between their people in various areas, in addition to establishing similar systems in various fields, including economic, security, financial, commercial, and other diverse activities.
HE examined the significant achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of human rights and the execution of the Ministry of Interior's "Together" programme since its implementation in 2011. This initiative is a crucial part of the National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Value of Citizenship (Bahrainouna). The programme stands out as one of the key national initiatives aimed at advancing genuine human principles and values, specifically targeting youth and students in Bahrain's schools. It employs modern and innovative curricula that address the challenges faced by countries globally. Additionally, discussions were held regarding collaboration with relevant authorities in the GCC countries to expand and implement the Anti-Violence and Addiction Programme” Maan” (Together) to achieve optimal levels of security, safety, and prevention against violence, addiction, and crime.
For his part, Ambassador Adel Al-Mahri praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Interior, to achieve the objectives and principles of human rights through the implementation of the Anti-Violence and Addiction Programme “Maan” (Together) and the alignment of the efforts of those involved in the programme with the highest aspirations of desired human values. He highlighted the programme's readiness to adopt scientific methodologies and theories that have proven effective in improving negative concepts and behaviours among children and youth in schools, protecting them from all negative phenomena that could affect them, and safeguarding them from all forms of violence, addiction, and crime.
