The General Directorate of Media and Security Culture has participated in a training programme on human rights principles for journalists and media personalities. The programme was organised by the National Institute for Human Rights and the Netherlands Embassy to reinforce human rights culture among different segments of society.
The workshop, presented by Ishraq bin Al Zain, Coordinator of the Training and Education Unit at the United Nations Centre for Training and Documentation in Human Rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region, covered several topics, the most prominent of which were the general framework for freedom of opinion and expression from the perspective of international human rights law, international mechanisms concerned with promoting freedom of opinion and expression, in addition to the role of the media in promoting human rights, regarding national legislation.
