The Muharraq Governor, Salman Bin Hindi Al Mannai, chaired a meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee for the Healthy Cities Programme. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Brigadier Jassim Mohammed Al-Ghatam; the Director-General of Muharraq Governorate Police, Brigadier Sultan Ahmed Al-Kaabi; and the Director-General of National Heritage at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and several committee members.
During the meeting, the Governor expressed gratitude to His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for his instructions to implement the World Health Organisation’s Healthy Cities Programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities. He emphasised that the governorate has made significant progress and is now prepared to meet the standards required for accreditation as a healthy governorate.
The Deputy Governor highlighted the establishment of a comprehensive database of public services and facilities alongside geographical and environmental surveys. He reassured that the governorate continues to implement and document all WHO standards to complete the programme effectively.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the efforts behind the Healthy Cities Programme, noting that the recognition of the Pearl Path by Condé Nast Traveler as a top walking destination in the Middle East enhances the programme’s goals of improving quality of life and promoting health.
Dr. Wafa Ibrahim Al-Sharbati from the Ministry of Health commended the committee members for their efforts and highlighted Muharraq’s prior successes, particularly in the Busaiteen and Sayah areas.
