After the approval of a service as part of the entries of the Government Innovation Competition "Fikra" launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the National Ambulance Centre launched the First Responder for Ambulance Motorcycle. The service is part of mechanisms to enhance effectiveness and swift response for emergencies, especially in areas with traffic jams and narrow roads in all governorates.
The procedures to reach the accident site consist of two main phases. The first stage involves the deployment of the first responders via ambulance motorcycles by the National Ambulance Operations Room after calling the emergency hotline (999). Priority is given to areas that are hard for ambulance vehicles to reach. The second stage is by providing immediate emergency services, including cases of cardiac and respiratory arrest, accidents and injuries, bleeding of all kinds, convulsions, drowning, and severe choking, in addition to fainting, low blood sugar, and emergency childbirth cases. There will be coordination with conventional ambulance services for backup and transport if needed.
An integrated team of paramedics with motorcycle driving licences received intensive training in on-road ambulance services to meet the requirements of swift emergency response.
