The Customs President, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, attended a discussion session entitled “Governance in line with the Government Institutions Governance Guide and the Executive Implementation Programme” by Customs Affairs. The event was organised to mark World Customs Day and attended by Ahmed Hassan Humaidan, Central Internal Audit Director at the Prime Minister's Office and customs officials.
The President of Customs hailed the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the governance system, which supports active management, performance improvement, and commitment to legislation.
He affirmed that transferring the concept of governance to the public sector is essential, as the governance principles make the institution proceed steadily. The Customs Affairs issued its governance guide in compliance with Cabinet Resolution No. (13) of 2013 regarding adopting the governance guide for government institutions.
The session included identifying the responsibilities and successful experiences through a visual presentation by several Customs Affairs Directors. It defined governance and its importance in Customs Affairs and how to achieve it. In addition, it reviewed the objectives of governance in Customs Affairs, which are represented in achieving strategic goals, enhancing management, decision-making, social responsibility, customer relations, supervisory control and auditing, competitiveness and sustainability, and developing and improving institutional performance.
