The Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, received the Omani Deputy Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, Dr Ahmed bin Talib Al Jabri and the accompanying delegation.
He welcomed the Omani committee's visit to Bahrain, asserting the depth of the bilateral ties between Bahrain and Oman. He highlighted the significance of reinforcing joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all aspects, including reform and social fields.
The Omani delegation was briefed on Bahrain’s pioneering experience in alternative sentencing and open prisons. The Director-General said that the project is one of the royal initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's reform project, which is followed up by the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The meeting reviewed the applications of the alternative sentencing project and open prisons programme, which are among the active programmes to reinforce community security and human rights development. It highlighted rehabilitation and training services and programmes for the open prisons’ beneficiaries and the programme’s local and international outcomes.
The delegation toured the open prisons complex and oversaw its modern buildings, including the education buildings equipped with the latest electronic systems, classrooms with integrated learning environments, and a carpentry workshop, also allocated as a health club.
The Omani delegation hailed Bahrain’s efforts in developing the criminal justice system and expressed dedication to promoting the exchange of expertise and successful experiences between the two countries to achieve common goals.
